The Canadian government has announced new fines ranging from $5,000 to $1.5 million for people who give immigration and citizenship advice without a licence, or who give applicants false and misleading information.
According to The Canadian Press, the minimum fine starts at $5,000 for practising immigration consulting without authorization, and rises to $15,000 for knowingly giving false or misleading advice.
Fines are higher for repeat violations or when applications are approved based on misleading advice. The government plans to create a public list of the violators who have been fined during 2027.
The new measures came into force on October 28.
