Canada's Pattison Food Group, which operates the More Rewards loyalty program used at Save-On-Foods stores, has confirmed that its customer database was subject to unauthorized access, exposing personal information of an undisclosed number of members.

The company said it detected unusual activity on one of its servers on October 13 and took immediate action to shut down the server and launch an investigation with the help of specialized cybersecurity experts.

On October 16, the company confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access personal data including:

▪️ Customer names. ▪️ Home addresses. ▪️ Phone numbers. ▪️ Email addresses. ▪️ Dates of birth.

This depends on the information registered in each customer's account.

What data was not affected?

The company said that, based on the information available to it, passwords, credit card data, and purchase history were not accessed, noting that More Rewards accounts themselves remain secure.

Does the incident affect Alberta residents?

The program is used in stores across Western Canada, including Edmonton and Calgary, and a number of Edmonton residents reported receiving email notifications about the incident.

The company has not disclosed the total number of affected customers or how many are in the province of Alberta.

⚠️ Important security warning

Fraudsters may exploit the exposed personal information to send fake messages impersonating Save-On-Foods or More Rewards in order to obtain passwords or banking information.

Customers are advised not to click on suspicious links or share verification codes, and to verify any notification directly through the official app or website.
