The Government of Alberta has introduced Bill 34, which includes amendments to strengthen consumer protection and consumer rights.
Key proposed amendments:
🚗 Defective vehicles: Allowing consumers to claim a refund or replacement for vehicles that cannot be repaired, under specific conditions.
🔐 Financial protection: Allowing credit files to be frozen to limit identity theft and fraud.
🔧 Right to repair: Making it easier to obtain spare parts, tools and maintenance information.
🏡 Land rights: Re-establishing a board dedicated to resolving landowner disputes.
🎟️ Lottery: Piloting ticket sales in some liquor stores.
⚠️ Important: The law is still only a proposal and has not taken effect.
