Edmonton – Alberta | October 28, 2026
The Government of Alberta, Canada, has announced the adoption of a fixed time year-round, in a decision that officially ends the practice of moving clocks forward and back twice a year.
Under the new system, residents of Edmonton, Calgary and the rest of the province will not turn their clocks back on Sunday, November 1, 2026, as was customary in previous years.
The new official time will be known as Alberta Time (ABT) and will remain fixed at UTC−6 year-round.
The decision means that sunset during the winter will be one hour later compared with what it would have been under the previous standard (winter) time, while sunrise times will also be later.
⚠️ The Government of Alberta advises updating phones and electronic devices and checking automatic time settings, as some older devices may need manual adjustment.
