Baghdad – Iraq | October 22, 2026

Accounts that monitor military movements have circulated a map showing what they said were nine sorties by military and reconnaissance aircraft over Iraqi areas on Wednesday, October 21.

According to the map's data, the movements included three MQ-9 drones, two MQ-1 aircraft, three E-11 aircraft, and one Dash-8 aircraft.

Those who published the map claimed that these sorties constitute a violation of Iraqi air sovereignty, and that some of the aircraft took off from military bases in Jordan.

These claims come amid earlier reports of unidentified military air movements over Iraq, and calls for clarification of the nature of those activities and the extent to which they are coordinated with the Iraqi authorities.

HANZALA was unable to independently verify the accuracy of all the routes and times shown on the map, the identity of the aircraft operators, or whether official permits exist for these flights.

The question of respecting Iraqi air sovereignty and ensuring the safety of residents and civilian airspace remains an issue that requires official clarification from the competent authorities.
