London – Ottawa | October 28, 2026
The British government has launched a new national campaign titled "Be Ready," urging citizens to keep drinking water, non-perishable food and basic emergency supplies for three days, as part of efforts to strengthen preparedness for potential crises.
The campaign was launched on October 22, 2026, amid growing concerns over the effects of severe weather, cyberattacks, disruptions to essential services and supply chain disruptions.
The British guidelines recommend keeping three litres of drinking water per person per day, or nine litres for three days, in addition to food, essential medicines, flashlights, batteries, radios and phone-charging devices.
What about Canada?
The Canadian government also recommends that households be able to rely on themselves for at least 72 hours in an emergency, keeping water, food, medicines, a first aid kit and communication supplies on hand.
Possible scenarios include power, water and communications outages, natural disasters and severe weather.
⚠️ Is there an imminent threat?
The recommendations do not mean that a warning has been issued about a war or a specific disaster. Rather, they aim to strengthen household readiness and reduce the impact of any sudden service disruption.
The two initiatives differ in timing: the British campaign is new, while the Canadian recommendation to prepare for 72 hours is part of previously established emergency guidelines.
